United Chinese Americans Illinois Chapter (UCA IL), City of Aurora, and Waubonsee Community College will organize a Chinese Traditional Music Program on September 6th from 7pm to 8pm. The one hour program Introduces the history, philosophy, instruments, and performance styles of Chinese traditional classical music. Understanding the history and meaning of Chinese traditional music helps one appreciate and enjoy it more! Three great musicians, Menghua Guan, Kerry Leung, and Ximu Liu, will be performing at the program.

Menghua Guan is a professional Chinese zither (Guzheng) performer and tutor in the Chicago area. She has been invited to numerous lectures and performances. For example, she has lectured at Roosevelt University, The College of Dupage, the Chicago Public Library. In addition, she has performed at the Chicago Confucius Institute, Chinese New Year Events held by Chinese Consulate in Chicago, etc. Menghua Guan was also invited to a Chinese zither Concerto performance in Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park with the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic in June 14th, 2018.
Kerry Leung is a Chinese multiple instrumentalist specialized in Bamboo flutes, Pipa lute and Erhu fiddles. He has been a member of the Chinese music society of North America and has performed with its silk and bamboo ensemble throughout the United States. Recently, he has performed solo concerts with his five traditional instruments both in the Chicago Botanic garden and in the Morton Arboretum.
Ximu Liu (Allier) is a Coloratura Soprano who has a master’s degree in vocal performance. Ximu has received multiple honors and awards for her musical talents. Ximu was 1st place in Star of Vocal at Hong Kong’s festival for college students in 2013. She was also 1st Place in Bel Canto at the Charming Cup Singer Contest at Liaoning, China in 2015.
